Crisis — Deadly Forever Chemicals Make Rainwater Unsafe to Drink and Freshwater Fish Unsafe to Eat

Remember the old saying that nothing lasts forever? Well things have changed. Now we have incredibly toxic substances called “forever” chemicals, because they do not break down in the environment. Forever chemicals, also known as PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), are a group of substances used heavily in a wide variety of commercial enterprises such as packaging, cookware and clothing manufacture.

Scientists at Stockholm University completed a 10 year study of these chemical in the environment and determined that according to US health guidelines, rainwater all over the planet is unsafe to drink. Samples were taken for all over the world including remote areas like Antarctica and Tibet. The rainwater from these remote areas were found to be 14 times EPA guidelines. The study also found that soil all over the planet was contaminated by these forever chemicals. Some of these chemicals are so toxic that the EPA has recommended safe levels in drinking water as .02 parts per trillion.

An article from CNN, warns readers to avoid eating Locally caught freshwater fish contain PFAS toxins, study finds | CNN. Consider what this means. Any fish caught in lakes, streams and rivers in America are unsafe to eat.

Avoid Eating Freshwater Fish

A recently released study has shown extremely high levels of deadly forever chemicals concentrated in US freshwater fish:

“The levels of PFOS found in freshwater fish often exceeded an astounding 8,000 parts per trillion,” said study coauthor David Andrews, a senior scientist at Environmental Working Group, the nonprofit environmental health organization that analyzed the data. The report was published Wednesday in the journal Environmental Research.

“In comparison, the EPA has allowed only 70 parts per trillion of PFOS in the nation’s drinking water. Due to growing health concerns, in 2022 the EPA recommended the allowable level of PFOS in drinking water be lowered from 70 to 0.02 parts per trillion.”
